RETURNED GALWAY EMIGRANTS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR UK FUEL ALLOWANCE

Many Galway residents, who were emigrants in the past, may now be eligible for the UK Winter Fuel Payment Allowance.

The annual payment varies between £100 and £300 sterling, depending on circumstances, and returned emigrants who could be claimants, need to have been born before July 5th 1951.

It’s understood that until last year, this money could only be paid to Irish people if they received the payment while in the UK and then transferred it.

However this has now changed following a ruling from the European Court of Justice last year.

Galway East Deputy Paul Connaughton believes many returned Galway emigrants may be eligible for the UK allowance.
