RETIRED CITY PUBLICAN CELEBRATES 100TH BIRTHDAY

RETIRED Galway city centre publican Bridget Fox is celebrating her 100th birthday today.

Mrs Fox who is a mother of 8, grandmother to 29 and who has 33 great-grandchildren is still in good health, gets around, listens to the radio and reads stories from two newspapers every day.

Bridget, who retired as proprietor of Fox’s Bar in Forster Street at the age of 80, is celebrating becoming a centenarian with Mass and a lunch attended by her extended family.

Her son, Brendan, told Galway Bay fm that the family are blessed to have a mother  of such great faith as she prays three or four novenas every day.

Bridget was born into the pub business as her maiden name was McHugh from the well known vintner’s family in Cloonacuaneen.

She is a widow for 60 years since her husband Patrick died following a road accident in 1953 on the Tuam Road close to the city.
