Residents oppose sale of Shantalla Community Park

The City Manager is being urged to abandon plans to sell a portion of Shantalla Community Park to a private developer.

An emergency public meeting will be held this evening to address the proposed sale of three-quarters of the green space.

In 2011, plans were made by the City Manager to rezone over one and a half acres of the park to allow a private developer build a health care community centre.

Spokesperson for Shantalla Residents Association, John McDonagh, says this has been increased to three acres without explanation.

City councillors and members of the public are invited to the meeting in St Joseph’s Community Centre at 8 o’clock this evening.

Councillor Collette Connolly says the City Manager has failed to acknowledge the work that has already gone into the amenity.
