Residents and business people met in Ballinasloe last night [14/8] to object to proposals to build a sludge drying facility there.

The facility would take in 30 thousand tonnes of wet sewage from all over Connacht, Clare and Westmeath.

The proposed facility would be built adjacent to the Premier Proteins meat rendering plant in Poolboy by OneBio Limited, a company belonging to the same group.

Last night’s meeting was organised by the Ballinasloe Environmental Alliance, who say they do not want to interfere with the jobs of 40 workers in Premier Proteins but are opposed to the development.
