REPORT SHOWS TEENAGERS ABSCOND FROM GALWAY CARE HOME

A report into a children’s care home in Galway has revealed that there were over 100 unauthorised absences by teeangers in one year.

The Health Information and Quality Authority, HIQA, found that one teenager in the care of the HSE had absconded 72 times.

HIQA makes 43 recommendations as part of its findings, including that the HSE West reviews the purpose and function of the centre, considering the need for an adequately resourced aftercare service in the area.
