Report shows 80% of Galway population as Credit Union members
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Almost eighty percent of the population of County Galway are Credit Union members, according to a recent report.
The report by the Irish League of Credit Unions reveals that the majority of personal and car loans drawn down by Galway people come from Credit Unions.
North West MEP Marian Harkin has welcomed the figures, but says the government is giving banks preferential treatment over the community lenders.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, she says the government is pushing Credit Unions to the ‘back of the line’.
