Galway Bay fm newsroom – A review commissioned by the HSE West in March last year has found that the Vision for Change strategy is not being implemented in Galway and Roscommon community mental health services.
The review focused on community residential facilities and resources and was published last month.
It included a detailed questionairre of each residence as well as meetings with the catchment teams and site visits.
It found that Mental Health Services in Galway and Roscommon are still operating under the policy provided by Planning for the Future.
It was also noted that the Galway and Roscommon Catchment Areas did not prepare any written strategy or plan for service change following the publication of Vision for Change in 2006.
The report makes 18 recommendations including the completion of the establishment of a broader catchment management team to include the presence of other clinical disciplines and a user.
Independent TD for Roscommon South Leitrim Denis Naughten has now called for a independent evaluation of community mental health services in both counties.
