There’s dedication and then there’s dedication. And the award for most deserving mother must surely go to the woman who rang the city’s Town Hall Theatre on December 30 to cancel her family ticket for the pantomime Little Red Riding Hood.

She and her children couldn’t make the Renmore Pantomime Society’s annual show for a very good reason – she was going into labour! However, one birth later, she rang back and booked tickets for later in the run.

That sums up the audience loyalty to the Renmore Panto, according to the Town Hall manager Fergal McGrath, who describes the city group – made up mostly of amateurs – as being unique in Ireland.

“They are a very special group of people,” he says, of the cast and crew, including innovative scriptwriter, Peter Kennedy who also plays the Dame in the show.

Little Red Riding Hood, which opened last weekend, has been getting a terrific reaction from audiences and is almost sold out.

But there are tickets left for some shows, according to Fergal McGrath. And even if a particular show is sold out, he advises people to contact the Town Hall box office on the day as cancellations occur.

The show has been getting a great response and while it’s three hours long – with an interval – “people are coming out with big smiles on their faces.
