Renmore residents object to demolition of Mercy convent

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A group of residents is objecting to plans to demolish the existing Mercy sisters convent to build a new convent in Renmore.

A planning application has been submitted for the new convent at Cnoc Mhuire, Ballyloughaun Road.

The new building would have 6 one bedroom apartments and 2 visitors’ bedrooms.

The plans also include car parking and a widening of the existing entrance gate.

However residents at Murrough, Renmore have objected claiming the development is out of character with Murrough Avenue.

They also raise concerns about traffic safety

A decision is expected from the City Council in the New Year.
