An urgent bid to stop commercial vehicles parking along the promenade in Salthill is being made a city councillor.

Councillor Catherine Connolly has been calling for an end to the parking of lorries and trucks there since 2006.

New regulations are due to become law, which would prevent the parking of commercial vehicles, but Councillor Connolly says the implementation of these is taking too long.

She has tabled a motion for a meeting of the City Council later today [25/2] seeking confirmation that steps are being taken to stop the practice.

Councillor Catherine Connolly says allowing commercial vehicles to park along the prom in Salthill raises serious health and safety concerns.
