Remembering Lizzy for special anniversary gig at Monroe’s

Remembering Lizzy play Monroe’s Live on Friday, January 8, to mark the 30th anniversary of Phil Lynott’s death.

This is the 25th consecutive year that the Galway outfit will assemble to celebrate the music of Ireland’s rock legends, Thin Lizzy.

Remembering Lizzy had their first gig in January 1991, in Galway to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the untimely passing of Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott. Every January since then, they get together to pay musical homage to one of Ireland’s greatest rock stars.

Lizzy’s influence has been huge, especially on American rock music. Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins is an avowed fan, and recorded a brilliant acoustic version of Dancing In The Moonlight. The Boys Are Back In Town rings out regularly at sports events around the world, and Lizzy’s energy can be heard in young bands like The Strypes. With many rock acts from his era enjoying continued success, it’s a pity Lynott isn’t around to share this.

To mark his 30th anniversary, Remembering Lizzy will return to Monroes Live for an extra special gig with some pre-gig video footage and a three-hour set crammed with the very best of Thin Lizzy and Philo’s music. Expect to hear a slew of their most loved tunes including Sarah and Whiskey in the Jar.

Doors for the Remembering Lizzy gig on Friday, January 8, are 10pm, Tickets €10/€8 online.
