Reggae with a mischievous twist from Chainska Brassika at City’s Loft venue

Describing themselves as a “mischievous rabble from Lewisham who have been causing mischief since school”, Chainska Brassika come to Galway City on Saturday, November 6, to play The Loft in Seven Bridge Street. There’s a clue to what they are about in the first part of their name – this is ska music, pure, but not simple.

Over the last year the band has reached new heights by winning the ‘World Reggae Contest’, supporting UK legends Madness on their UK Stadium tour. Chainska Brassika have also played at a host of festivals including Glastonbury, Boomtown, Ostroda Reggae, Notting Hill Carnival, and the Secret Garden Party.

If the music on their website is anything to go by, Chainska Brassika are a band with a sweet sound.

Their lead vocalist, who goes by the name Shman, is out front, backed by a heady fusion of guitar, keys and brass. Drummer Seth Willis is more than adept and keeps the whole thing ticking along nicely.

The band recently flew to the heartland of reggae, Jamaica, to record at the world famous Harry J Studios in Kingston where they worked with Grammy Award-winning producer Stephen Stewart on their upcoming LP, due out in the spring of 2017.

■ Their gig at the Loft is a midnight show, and tickets are €10 from www.sevenbridge street.ie
