The Irish Refugee Council has hit out at the decision to close the city based Lisbrook asylum centre.

Over 270 residents are to be moved next month as part of the arrangement and 25 staff are set to lose their jobs.

The Department of Justice says the closure is part of an ongoing programme of consolidation of RIA Reception & Integration Agency accommodation.

The Irish Refugee Council has hit out at the timing of the move and says the sudden closure illustrates the unsuitability of Direct Provision for families.
