RECOUNT COMPLETE IN GALWAY WEST
Date Published: 02-Mar-2011
The secound recount in the Galway West constituency is complete at Leisureland and Returning Officer Marion Chambers-Higgins is announcing the results.
The recount was granted to Independent Catherine Connolly early yesterday [1/3] after she was eliminated, having lost the final seat to Fine Gael’s Seán Kyne by just 17 votes.
The recount got underway around 4pm yesterday and counters worked through the night.
It was the secound recount in the Galway West constituency, as Fine Gael’s Fidelma Healy-Eames also requested a recount on Sunday [27/2] after she faced the prospect of elimination.
While there were some errors discovered in the first recount, they were not enough to put Healy-Eames back in the race.
This morning, Fianna Fáil’s Éamon Ó Cuív, Labour’s Derek Nolan and Fine Gael’s Brian Walsh have been deemed elected again.
The next person to be deemed elected will be Independent Noel Grealish.
The final seat is still due to go to Fine Gael’s Seán Kyne.
