Recession doesn’t deter new business

THE first personal gift shopper service in the West has just got off the ground – just in time for the Christmas season. Personal shoppers used to be the luxury of the rich but in recent years more and more ‘time poor’ people have been using the service.
Now Galway people have their own personal shopper in the form of Norah Mahoney who has just launched the www.personalgiftshopper.ie website. Not only will Norah, who has ten years experience in one form or another in retail, do the leg work – offline and online – but her website will also suggest gift ideas, as the service is primarily aimed at gift shopping.
The current recession isn’t necessarily worrying Norah as people still have to shop and gift giving looks more than likely to continue! “We have been working on this for a while but only launched the website a few weeks ago. Already there are a number of queries and that’s before we have even made an impact yet on the public.
“I found online shopping frustrating myself because the mail boxes were always full and you could never get a personal contact. Though our business is website based, you do get personal contact via email and even phone calls.”
