THE Galway hurling team to face reigning All-Ireland champions Kilkenny will be named tonight (Thursday) at which time a final decision will be made on the fitness of injured Portumna duo Andy
Smyth and sharpshooting ace Joe Canning.

Suffering from a recurring groin strain, Canning must undergo a fitness test later this evening to determine if he will be able to stand up to the rigours of a sure to be physical and bruising battle against the reigning All-Ireland champions.

Andy Smyth has picked up an infection in his leg following an injury sustained by that reckless pull by James Young of Laois in Galway’s Leinster championship opener a fortnight ago.

Speaking on the injuries, Galway hurling boss John McIntyre said: “Andy Smyth and Joe Canning only participated in some aspects of the hurling session at Kenny Park on Tuesday evening. A final decision will be made on their fitness later in the week.”
