Rare talent Roesy makes overdue return

Published

Celebrating the release of his latest album Wolf Counsel, the fantastic Roesy makes a welcome return to the Róisín Dubh on Thursday, May 14. Roesy stood out as a songwriter of genuine class from the first notes of his 2001 debut album, Sketch The Day, Paint The Night, which was recorded alongside ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler.

The Birr man followed that up with a sublime live album recorded in Dundalk’s Spirit Store, and then released his second studio album Only Love Is Real, in 2004.

Despite his talent, however, Roesy never achieved the national success of his fellow Birr native Mundy. He played on regardless,  and spent time touring in Europe, the USA, Asia and South America.

He released Colour Me Colourful in 2006, and then moved to Amsterdam where he soundproofed the basement of his apartment and recorded the album Fable. It was mixed in New York, where he had previously been picked up by publishers Wardlaw Banks/Downtown Music, and released in Spring 2010.

Now living in Melbourne, Roesy recorded Wolf Counsel with producer Mark Stanley, who has previously worked with Glen Hansard and Gemma Hayes.

If you haven’t discovered Roesy yet, now is the time. A songwriter of rare craft with a magnificent voice, it would be great to see his fanbase swell.

Doors 9pm, tickets €15/€12.50.
