Random act of kindness gives kids free swim
An anonymous American donor has disproved singer-songwriter Nick Lowe’s theory that you’ve gotta be cruel to be kind.
In an apparent random act of kindness without any cruelty, the US visitor donated €120 to Leisureland in Salthill to cover the cost of entry for 22 children who arrived at the publicly-owned swimming pool last Thursday.
And it would appear the children have Galway’s famed ‘Céad Míle Fáilte’ to thank for their surprise free passes into the pool – because Galway’s friendly welcome is what spurred the benefactor from parting with his or her money.
The only condition attached to the generous donation was that a note would be dispensed to each child who benefited from the donor’s largesse.
The note read: “Your entry today has been paid for by a random act of kindness. I have no connection with Leisureland other than a visit to Ireland a few years ago, which has the friendliest people in the World! Hope you enjoy your swim and share the love.”
Galway City Councillor Donal Lyons (Ind), chairman of the board of the local authority run facility, thanked the contributor on behalf of Leisureland and the children who benefitted.
“We’re delighted to accept the gesture and would like to thank the anonymous donor for his random act of kindness. As a result, 22 children availed of the facilities here at Leisureland today and thoroughly enjoyed their experience,” said Cllr Lyons.
