THE future of Connacht rugby appears to be in safe hands, that is at least if the current crop of under 18s is anything to go by.

On Saturday at a sodden underfoot and drizzly Sportsground the home side pounced early with decisive scores and kept a firm grip on proceedings to the end to book a place in next weekend’s final against Leinster in Mullingar.

Ulster were always going to be tricky opponents for the reigning champions, who had topped the round robin stage in October to book a home semi final and, after Michael Lawton’s early penalty, a tight contest appeared to be on the cards. However in the ten minutes that followed the home side struck decisively to lay down a marker Ulster couldn’t match.

Captain Mark Dolan from Buccaneers was first to score with a sniping break from the base 15 metres out. He showed balance and impressive snap speed to make the line and with Adam Kennedy’s conversion, the home side had a lead they weren’t going to relinquish.
