Rain doesn’t dampen rush to sales

The wet weather certainly hasn’t put a damper on the sales as shoppers turned out in good numbers yesterday for the annual post Christmas buying fest.

The focus on the sales was in the city centre as drenched shoppers spent even more money and used up all those voucher Christmas gifts. Next in Edward Square were on their marks early to win the Early Bird prize, their sale starting at 5am. When the shop doors were opened, there was a queue outside to be first to avail of the half price sale on most items in the shop, especially menswear and shoes, as well as Christmas wrapping paper and gift boxes that some shoppers admitted they were stocking up for next year!

In fact, it seemed to be the biggest sale in town with every second shopper sporting a Next sales bag and by lunchtime the shop floor looked like mayhem as the racks and racks of clothes were being given scrutinised to check if they were bargains.
