Gardaí  have appealed for information into a robbery at a house in the South Galway area that traumatised a brother and sister, both in their eighties.

A gang of three masked men forced their way into the house at Cahermore – between Ardrahan and Kinvara – and ransacked the rooms before leaving with a quantity of cash.

Although the couple were not injured in the robbery, they were reported to be heavily traumatised by the incident.

A Garda spokesperson described the robbery as a very serious one in terms of the trauma being caused to two elderly people late at night.

“There may be someone out there who has information about who might be involved in this robbery. This was a very nasty crime and one that we are taking a very serious view of,” said the Garda spokesperson.

It is understood that the couple have also been robbed previously, with their isolated location on a very quiet country road between Labane and Kinvara making them a target for the thieves.

The gang forced their way into the house via the front door on Saturday night last (Oct. 14) between 10pm and 10.30pm, demanding money from the occupants.

They proceeded to ransack the house before leaving with a quantity of cash and then driving off.

Anyone who can be of any assistance to the Gardai in the case are asked to contact Gort Garda Station on 091 636400 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.
