Radio Luxemburg for Fringe Fest
Radio Luxemburg, a new play by Mick Donnellan will be presented by Truman Town Theatre Company from this Saturday, July 12 to Thursday, July 17 as part of the Galway Fringe Festival.
The show will be at the beautifully converted Columban Hall in the city’s Sea Road.
Radio Luxembourg is a black comedy centring on two Irish criminals involved in a ‘tiger kidnapping’ that goes terribly wrong. Paddy and Joe arrive at a local bank manager’s house, planning to tie up the man’s daughter in a bid to use her as ransom. Things initially seem to be going according to plan but soon the cracks appear, resulting in a bizarre and hilarious unfolding of events. Joe’s past comes back to haunt him while Paddy’s future hangs in the balance.
Meanwhile, their victim, Samantha, presents a whole new set of problems that none of them could possibly foresee.
Truman Town Theatre, under the artistic direction of Mick Donnellan, first made waves on the theatre circuit in 2012 with his play Sunday Morning Coming Down. Following a national tour, they went on to produce and tour two more hugely successful plays, Shortcut to Hallelujah and Gun Metal Grey.
More recently, the company toured a fourth play, Velvet Revolution, while earlier this year Radio Luxembourg was bought by a London film company (STORY) and has been adapted for the screen.
Its cinematic release is due in early 2015 and the cast will involve actors Robbie Sheehan and Brian Gleeson. The title for the movie version will be Tiger Raid.
Radio Luxemburg is at 8pm nightly and tickets are €10/12. Tickets at galwayfringe.ie/events/radio-luxembourg/
