Quirke Road upgrade to go to tender in weeks

Galway City Council has confirmed that tender documents are nearly completed for a long-awaited, multimillion euro upgrade of the Seamus Quirke Road at the Westside.

Funding had been provided by the Department of Transport under the 2007 budget for the consultancy and design of the approximately €10million upgrade, and a spokesperson for the City Council said that “within a number of weeks” it will have a complete set of tender documents, so the project can be put out to tender for contractors to bid on.

She explained that in the context of next year’s programme of works, Galway City Council will be attempting to procure funding for the construction of the scheme.
