A well known Galway publican is still shaken following an horrific ordeal during which a six figure sum was stolen from his home.

Raiders made their way through the rear window of his property in the early hours of Sunday morning while he was asleep in his bed.

Publican and the owner of the very popular Hole in the Wall pub on Eyre Street, Stephen Fahy was woken up by the intruders before being bound with two cable ties.

The raiders then made off with a very substantial amount of cash which was contained in a case and escaped out the front door of the house.

Investigating Gardaí are considering the possibility that the raiders suspected that there was a substantial amount of money on the property which is located adjacent to the pub.

The ordeal took place sometime after 4am on Sunday morning when Mr. Fahy was in bed at the time. Two men managed to make their way to the back of the property and then forced open an upstairs window.

A scuffle ensued and the owner was then proceeded to restrain Mr. Fahy, who is in his sixties, by using two cable ties.

They then snatched the case containing an extremely large amount of cash and made their way to the front door of the property.

Gardaí suspect that the two men, who wore face masks and dark clothing, many have turned towards the Woodquay direction. Currently they are examining all of the available CCTV in the area.
