Charlie McConalogue: Meetings to inform farmers of CAP '23.

WITH the new CAP just around the corner in 2023, farmers have been invited by the Dept. of Agriculture to attend one of a number of ‘in-person’ public information meetings going on until the end of the month.

The Galway meeting is being held in the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe, on Thursday March 24, starting at 8pm and concluding at 9.30pm. In Mayo, the TF Royal Hotel, will host their meeting on Tuesday, March 22.

In the run-up to the new CAP, the Dept. of Agriculture have developed a payment calculator and a stocking-rate calculator to help inform farmers of the changes that will run from 2023 to 2027 inclusive.

According to the Dept. of Agriculture, farmers will be able to calculate indicative direct payments in 2023 using the payment calculator.

To do this, farmers will need to know their number of hectares; the number of entitlements they hold; as well as their BPS (Basic Payments) and greening value per entitlement.
