PUBLIC MEETING IN CITY ON FIGHTING THE PROPERTY TAX

A public meeting entitled ‘Tax Wealth not Homes’ takes place in the city tonight hosted by Galway Sinn Fein.

Galway Senator Trevor ó Clochartaigh says the property tax ignores those in mortgage difficulty, those in negative equity and those reliant on a social welfare payment, adding low and middle income earmers will bear the brunt of it.

Tonight’s public meeting takes place at 8 in the Westwood Hotel.

Meanwhile, the Taoiseach says plans by the revenue commissioners to take the property tax from people’s bank accounts, salaries or welfare would only be a last resort.
