A series of public consultation meetings on the future for planning in Galway will get underway today (15 May).

Galway County Council has announced a full review of the current county development plan, which was adopted in 2009 and expires in 2015.

The Council has already issued a brief issues paper that is intended to set out matters for consideration including population, housing and transport.

A draft county development plan will be prepared by the council, taking account of any relevant submissions and consultations at this pre-draft stage.

Public consultations will now take place across the county.

The first takes place today at Ballinasloe civic offices between 12 and 3pm. (15 May)
