The development of Galway Port will put it in a position to rival Cork and Dublin in commercial terms.

That’s according to Chief Executive of Galway Harbour, Eamon Bradshaw, who was commenting at the launch of the public consultation process at the Docks this afternoon.

Phase 1 of the development of Galway Harbour, costing around 50 million euro, will include a sheltered quay and a turning circle for some of the world’s larges cruise liners.

The final stages of the plans, due to be complete by 2017, will include a rail link to Ceannt station and a quay for the inshore fishing fleet.

The project is being funded by the Harbour Board.

The public can have their say about the plans today until 8pm and tomorrow from noon to 6pm at Centre Pier at the Docks.
