Pub ordered to remove “hideous eyesore” beer garden
From this week’s Galway City Tribune – An Enforcement Notice was issued by Galway City Council to the owners of Crowe’s Bar in Bohermore following a complaint from the public about noise from an “unauthorised” beer garden structure.
The Planning Department at City Hall issued the notice to Crowe’s Bar, after receiving a complaint about a beer garden/smoking shed “erected unlawfully and without planning permission”.
Details of the complaint made last July, were released to Galway City Tribune following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
Documents show that Seán Haugh of Planning Enforcement inspected the bar on July 26, 2019.
“It was found that a covered structure was located at the rear of the property, a TV, chairs, tables and a bar-serving facility are located within the structure,” he said.
Mr Haugh said the structure was not shown in previous planning permissions granted.
He recommended that a warning letter be issued to the bar at 90 Bohermore.
On August 16, Director of Services for Planning at Galway City Council, Ruth McNally wrote to Crowe’s Bar (Galway) Ltd, citing Section 34 of the Planning and Development Act 2000.
She said that the bar was “required to remove the unauthorised structure immediately” and to “discontinue the unauthorised development forthwith”.
