Psychiatric nurses to meet over safety concerns at UHG
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Psychiatric nurses from Galway and Roscommon will meet in the city this evening (10/7) to discuss ongoing safety concerns at University Hospital Galway’s psychiatric unit.
It follows a protest at the gates of UHG last week, led by the Psychiatric Nurses Association.
The PNA has been balloting its members on possible industrial action.
It says patients and staff at the 45-bed unit are not safe due to understaffing and outdated facilities.
The association has given the HSE until next week to implement changes at the unit to improve safety and avert strike action.
This evening’s meeting will take place at the Clayton Hotel in Ballybrit at 8.30.
Speaking in the Dáil yesterday, Roscommon T.D Denis Naughten described the conditions in the UHG unit as unacceptable.
