Galway Bay fm newsroom – At least two bus loads of campaign members opposed to the removal of acute psychiatric beds at St.

Brigids hospital in Ballinasloe will travel to Dáil Éireann today.

Fianna Fáil Senators are expected to raise the issue of the bed transfers in the Seanad this afternoon.

An attempt by the HSE to remove 5 beds from the psychiatric unit was thwarted last night when up to 200 people gathered to block the move.

The wind down of the unit began last month, and the reconfiguration involves three phases which will see 50 beds in UHG and 22 in Roscommon.

The HSE says the move is a major investment in jobs and facilities in Galway and Roscommon, with an additional 44 staff posts.

Arthur Carr of the Galway East life support says protestors intend to step up their campaign today
