Galway Bay fm newsroom – Up to 60 Margaretta D’Arcy supporters gathered in the city this afternoon in solidarity with jailed peace activist.

Protesters carrying placards and banners gathered at the junction of Shop Street and Mainguard Street to voice their concerns over the imprisonment of the 79-year-old.

It follows a series of similar events in Dublin, Limerick and Galway in recent weeks, after Ms D’Arcy was jailed for three months over her protests against the use of Shannon Airport by the US military.

15 MEPs from eight different countries have written to the Minister for Justice calling for her release.

Ms D’Arcy has been offered a transfer from Limerick Prison to Mountjoy Prison in Dublin- and is due to be tranferred by the end of next week.

Speaking at today’s event, her son Finn Arden said his mother is in good spirits, but he’s still concerned.
