Protest group gathers in Eyre Square to coincide with Taoiseach’s visit

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A group of up to 20 protestors have gathered in Eyre Square where the Taoiseach will shortly officiate at the opening of the Christmas continental market (6pm)

They say they are demonstrating against government policy and austerity.

Enda Kenny has travelled from Loughrea where he earlier officiated at the opening of an intreo employment hub.

This evening’s city ceremony kicked off at 5.30 with a carnival style street parade.

The Taoiseach will also turn on the city’s christmas lights as part of the event.
