PROPOSED COUNTY COMMERCIAL RATE INCREASE OF TWO PER CENT

Galway County Council will see a reduction in Local Government funding of 2 point 5 million euro this year, a decrease of more than 6 percent on last year’s figure.

County Manager, Martina Moloney, is proposing that the commercial rate for 2009 be increased by 2 percent.

Water charges are to increase significantly in line with the National Water Pricing Policy.

The cost per cubic metre for water in 2008 was 89 cent and this is proposed to rise to 1 euro and 9 cent next year.

The charge, per cubic metre, for waste water, is proposed to rise from 61 cent to 1 euro and 7 cent next year.
