PROPOSAL TO CHANGE ON STREET PARKING TO TAXI BAY IN CITY
Date Published: 05-Feb-2009
There’s a proposal to ease taxi congestion in the city centre by replacing on-street parking at Bridge Street with a taxi bay.
Councillor Colette Connolly has put forward the motion, which is due to be discussed at a meeting of the Council on Monday. [9/2]
It’s hoped the plans would go some way towards alleviating the problem of some taxis having to park illegally.
Councillor Colette Connolly says they’re waiting for the city manager to bring forward bye-laws which may also help the Galway taxi situation.
Meanwhile, Councillor Tom Costello has put forward a motion requesting the City Manager Joe McGrath to resign as a member of the Commission for Taxi Regulation’s Advisory Council.
He is putting forward the motion on behalf of the Galway Taxi Association Lobby Group, because of what he claims is the attitude of the Regulator towards the taxi problem in Galway.
