PROPOSAL FOR COUNTY COUNCIL TO COMBAT EAST GALWAY FLOODING
Date Published: 24-Aug-2009
A submission is to be made to the County Council’s budget for 2010 for a contigency plan for flooding.
An 82 year old woman was left homeless last night after her bungalow was flooded in the village of Kilconnell in East Galway.
A combination of torrential rain and bad drainage led to two houses in the village being flooded.
Areas in East Galway such as Loughrea, Ballinasloe and Athenry were also heavily flooded yesterday.
Councillors Tim Broderick and Michael Mullins met with an engineer this morning to assess the damage and discuss future drainage measures.
