A total of more than €6.7 million euro worth of residential property sales were completed in Galway in the first two weeks of September, according to figures from the Property Price Register.

Sales were concluded on 35 properties in the city and county within the two-week period, the official State database shows.

By comparison, there were 56 sales recorded as concluded in the same period in 2013 (down 37.5%), with a total value of around €8.8m.

A plush four-bed detached home in the luxury Thornberry development in Barna – launched in 2005 to much fanfare – which sold for €540,000.

At the other end of the spectrum, a two-bed apartment at Aonach on Dunlo Hill in Ballinasloe sold for just €26,000.

In this regular feature in Tribune Property, data is scraped from the Property Price Register and modified to include (where available) a brief description of the property and the initial asking price.

In a small number of transactions included in the Register, the price shown does not represent the full market price of the property concerned for a variety of reasons. All such properties are marked with asterisks.

For example, the price declared may reflect the retention of an interest in the property by the previous owner, or the fact that a part or fraction only of the property is being purchased; alternatively, the property may have been purchased at a reduced price under the Affordable Homes Scheme.

In addition, in a very small number of cases, properties may be declared as purchased in exchange for other property, stocks and shares, etc.

If the property is a new property, the price shown is exclusive of VAT at 13.5%
