Projects to benefit from Creative Ireland funds
Nine arts projects around the county have received support from Galway County Council, via its countywide bursary programme run under the auspices of Creative Ireland.
This is a five-year Government programme, established in 2017, that’s designed to “create pathways and opportunities for people and communities to unlock their creative potential”, according to the organisation.
Part of Creative Ireland’s remit involves working with local authorities countrywide to promote arts in the community.
The Galway projects which were selected for support this year, following an application process, cover a wide geographical and cultural spread.
They are Frank – The Man with the Camera with Merchants Gate Films and Milltown Heritage Group; Ballinderreen Sketching with Ballinderreen Ciorcal Cómhrá and Ballinderreen Community Centre; Headford Bobbin Beats with Headford Lace, Drumadore Drum School and Claran Theatre; Carrying the Songs with Interface Inagh and Alannah Robbins; Paper Dreams with Phillida Eves and Scoil Speisialta Tigh Nan Dooley; Le Chéile with Galway Traditional Orchestra; Ó Ghlúin go Glúin with Ionad Oidhreachta Leitir Mealláin and Scoil Náisiúnta Leitir Mealláin; Glenamaddy Diaspora Festival with Glenamaddy Boyounagh Heritage Project and This Place with Galway Dance Project.
They each received bursaries ranging from €1,000 and €5,000, with €5,000 being the maximum amount.
