A final report on the cause of an explosion in City Hall last Summer has still not been made public – almost 10 months after the blast ripped through the ground floor of the building.

A spokesperson for the Council told the Galway City Tribune that a report from the Health and Safety Authority is not yet available.

Investigations into the incident “have still not been completed”, according to the local authority.

The explosion – which occurred just before staff arrived for work on June 11 last – shattered windows and caused extensive damages to offices.

At the end of last year, it emerged the Council had lodged an insurance claim for €400,000, despite the cause of the incident being unknown.

Several councillors criticised city officials for failing to release the preliminary findings of their own investigations into the blast.
