PRISON SENTENCE FOR HIGH SPEED CAR RUN THROUGH CITY

A Georgian national who led Gardai on a high speed car chase through the city over two weeks ago has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and put off the road for ten years.

23 year-old George Mkrtichiani, of 11 Mayfield Grove, Athlone, was involved in a high-speed chase through the city streets on Sunday afternoon, August 31.

Mkrtichiani pleaded guilty at Galway district Court yesterday to five counts of dangerous driving, two counts of hit and run and another for causing criminal damage to a Garda patrol car on Sunday August 31st.

He also pleaded guilty to being found in possession of a fake driving licence in June 2005.
