A county councillor has called on the local authority to put more pressure on the NRA to secure funding for various road repairs.

Cllr Jim Cuddy told this week’s meeting that road repairs are needed at various areas around the county including in Claregalway, where he says resurfacing is needed following pipe laying works.

Director of Services Frank Gilmore said the NRA budget was significantly cut this year and that the council is proactive in securing funding wherever possible.

Cllr Cuddy also highlighted recent traffic calming measures at Knockdoe which he claims are the subject of very negative comment.

He said the section of roadway needs illumination on the ground and added that he believed the 400 thousand euro project was bad value for money.

Director of Services Frank Gilmore said the 400 thousand euro was not just for traffic calming, however he said that the lining was not designed by the council and is being monitored in case of any problems.
