President stresses importance of education during Glenamaddy visit

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The President of Ireland stressed the importance of education in empowering young people during his visit to Glenamaddy today.

Michael D. Higgins addressed staff, pupils and parents at Glenamaddy community school after formally unveiling a stainless steel art sculpture.

The board of managment commissioned the piece in 2012, and the inspiration for the bull rushes sculpture came from the nearby Lough Lurgeen bog.

During his speech, President Michael D. Higgins talked about the importance of schools in developing young peoples abilities.

Glenamaddy Community School is 11 years old this year.

Principal James Duignan told FYI Galway they were honoured to host the President.

Kilkerrin student Cian Boyle spoke on behalf of the students to the President and afterwards described Michael D. Higgins as an inspiration.
