President of Ireland to attend Daniel O’ Connell re-enactment in city
The President of Ireland will visit the city tomorrow for a re-enactment of the Daniel O’ Connell speech made to the people of Galway 170 years ago.
Michael D.Higgins will travel to Shantalla for the event which takes place at the Emancipation rock at the community park at 2pm.
The day gets underway at noon from Reddington road, where people dressed in period costumes will march through the streets of Shantalla.
It’s all part of the Shantalla residents 70th anniversary celebrations which have been taking place all week.
The first residents moved into Shantalla in February 1943, and the community centre was built in the 70’s.
