PRESIDENT HIGGINS CHOOSES ‘CRISIS IN ETHICS’ AS 2013 THEME

President Michael D Higgins has chosen the crisis in ethics as his theme for 2013

The president spent short periods at his home in Galway over the Christmas period and is now in Lanzarote for a working break

However, he’s funding the sunshine holiday himself

President Higgins’ wife Sabina is staying in Dublin due to commitments not connected to her work in Aras an Uachtarain

The Aras says President Higgins will be using the week’s break for writing and for preparing for 2013

His executive assistant Kevin McCarthy will accompany the president so they can prepare for the year ahead

Mr McCarthy is also travelling at his own expense
