PRESIDENT ELECT PAYS TRIBUTE TO GALWAY AT CITY HOMECOMING

President Elect Michael D Higgins has paid tribute to Galway and has vowed to return to the city after his term in office.

Over five thousand people gathered in Eyre Square last evening for a special homecoming ceremony.

Addressing the crowds of supporters from the steps of the Meyrick Hotel, Michael D Higgins said Ireland has moved on to a chapter of change and transformation.

He urged the crowds to work together as a nation and said Galway’s imagination can spread to other parts of Ireland.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, he said he was honoured to have represented Galway throughout his political career.

He vowed to return to the city after his time as president.
