Galwegians recorded a bonus ponit victory over Queens University Belfast in Glenina on Sunday to climb to third in the table with their third win in four league games.

The ‘Wegians pack were dominant throughout, and it was from a rolling maul that they opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Eddie Earle dotted down. Scrum-half Barry lee scored the second try after the ’Wegians pack shunted the visitors off their own put-in from a five metre scrum; full-back John Cleary scored the fourth try; while replacement scrum-half grabbed the fourth try after another massive shunt by the pack at a 5-metre scrum.

The game then petered out to its inevitable conclusion, and not even two late sin-binnings for ’Wegians afforded any respite to the students who were unable to breach the home defence whose impressive defensive effort was rewarded with a shutout.

This result means ’Wegians were the big movers in the Division, jumping into third place and lying just three behind early leaders Ballymena. The Blues now face a three-week break until they resume League action at home to Highfield on November 23.
