Galway Bay fm newsroom – Wave-energy devices will be placed off the coast of Galway next year to see if the ocean can produce electricity.

Up to three machines are due to be placed in Galway Bay as part of a major green energy plan.

According to today’s Irish Independent, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland says it’s in discussions with three companies, who want to test their machines in Irish waters.

3 million euro will be spent on installing an underwater cable fitted with fibre optics and wi-fi.

The cable will allow the manufacturers to measure how much power can be generated in a bid to attract investors.

The site for the devices measures about 37 hectares and is located about 1.5 kilometres out into Galway Bay.
