POST-MORTEM FOLLOWING DEATH OF GALWAY PHOTOGRAPHER AT CAVAN RALLY

Post mortems will be carried out today on the bodies of Galway photographer Joe Lane and another woman, who both died after a crash at a motor rally race in Cavan yesterday [May 27].

Joe Lane, aged in his fifties and from Kilcolgan was a motorsports photographer at the rally.

It’s understood a Ford Escort competing in the race lost control and crashed through a fence into a crowd of spectators, about a mile outside Bailieborough.

The incident also claimed the live of 29 year old Caroline Cleary from Cork.

Seven other people, including a driver and co-driver, were taken to hospital after the collision.

Chief Executive of Motorsport Ireland, Alex Sinclair, says a full investigation will be carried out into what caused the tragedy.
