PORTUMNA BRIDGE CLOSES TONIGHT FOR 9 DAYS

The road bridge in Portumna closes tonight [fri oct 24] for nine days to allow essential repairs to be carried out

The bridge on the N65 over the river Shannon has been in a state of disrepair for some time, but a new swingspan section has been built.

The new section will be lowered onto the bridge by a crane.

It was initially thought the 2 million euro project would take 90 days to complete.

The bridge will close at 10 o’ clock tonight (24/10) and re-open on Sunday week the 2nd of November at midnight.

Traffic will now have to use alternative routes through Banagher and Eyrecourt.
