PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL ACTION GROUP TO MEET OVER FUTURE OF ONCOLOGY UNIT

The Portiuncula Hospital Action Committee is to meet as soon as possible over a threat to the future of the oncology unit.

Last evening, Galway Bay Fm News revealed that 7 staff at the oncology unit were told that it would be closed as part of the HSE’s cost cutting plan.

In a statement, the HSE says no decision has been made to remove the oncology service from Portiuncula hospital.

A meeting with management of Galway University Hospitals and Portiuncula Hospital along with the Regional Director of Operations with the HSE West is due to take place next week.
